China's new two-dimensional materials research has made important progress
- A chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, using a bimetallic laminate consisting of an upper copper foil / bottom molybdenum foil

On August 24th, from the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Materials Science of Shenyang (Institute of Materials Science and Technology, Beijing 100083, China) The research and physical properties of the large-scale high-quality two-dimensional transition metal carbide crystals Research has made an important breakthrough. Relevant achievements recently published in the "Nature - Materials" magazine online, and access to the same period "news and ideas" column highlights.

The researchers proposed a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, using a bimetallic laminate consisting of an upper copper foil / bottom molybdenum foil as a growth matrix to catalyze the cracking of methane from copper at high temperatures and the molybdenum atoms diffused to the copper surface Reaction to grow high-quality ultra-thin two-dimensional Mo2C crystal. These two-dimensional crystals have regular geometries, only a few nanometers thick, up to hundreds of microns, and have high chemical and thermal stability.

Researchers and the solid atomic imaging research department Ma Xiuliang research group, the structure of the material was characterized in detail, found that the material is orthogonal structure, with a high quality of the crystal, uniform structure, no defects, impurities and so on. The cooperative research with Peking University shows that this high quality two-dimensional ultra-thin crystal has superconductivity characteristics at low temperature, and its superconductivity strongly depends on the thickness of the material.

Researchers believe that this bimetallic film based on the CVD method has good universality and controllability, can be used to prepare other two-dimensional transition metal carbide. This kind of high quality two-dimensional transition metal carbide crystal has added new members to the two-dimensional material family, not only for the study of its intrinsic properties and the existing two-dimensional materials of different physical properties and new applications possible, and can be used And other two-dimensional crystal materials together to build a new type of heterogeneous structure, expanding the two-dimensional material properties and application space.
It is understood that scientists have prepared functional transition metal carbide nanosheets. However, the functionalized two-dimensional transition metal carbide nanosheets prepared by this method have small size and have a large number of defects and functional groups, which limit the research and application of the basic physical properties of two-dimensional transition metal carbides explore.
